Book #2 Seventh Continent The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
Survival is second nature for Katniss Everdeen of District 12 but it is entertainment for the denizens of the Capitol. By spinning out the entertainment you can acquire the means to survive.

Katniss  has struggled to take care of her mother and sister since she was barely twelve years old. The district in which she lives is not the most repressed of the districts that serve The Capitol, and she has been able to learn how to slip out of it's boundaries in order to hunt for food to feed herself and her family.

No one who lives in this land of paradoxes ever has enough to eat except those who live in The Capitol. The Capitol has advanced medicine, superior technology, all the luxuries needed for  a luxurious lifestyle. The districts don't even have electricity most of the time.

Those that live in the outlying districts provide all that is neccesary  for live in The Capitol as well as it's entertainment. Two teens from each district are selected to fight to the death in this last endeavor.
